Dagmary Olívar Graterol
Founder and Director of YoSoyElOtro
Dagmary Olívar Graterol is a founding member and director of the Cultural Association YoSoyElOtro (“I am the Other”). She moved from Venezuela to Spain in 2002, where she works on research, education, and cultural management. She holds a PhD in Humanities from the University Carlos III of Madrid, where she also completed her MA in Cultural Management. Previously, she had obtained her Humanities BA from the Andrés Bello Catholic University. She investigates the changes in Spain’s migrant population, especially those of Caribbean and Latin American origin, and their participation in the culture of the city of Madrid and other parts of the Spanish State. She coordinated the compilation and publication of the following books: El Otrx: arte, cultura y migración en la ciudad de Madrid (La Parcería Edita-YoSoyElOtro, 2021), La comunidad dominicana en España: de una aproximación histórica a perspectivas de futuro, (INDEX- Madrid, 2019) and El mito de la mujer caribeña (Ediciones de La Discreta, 2011), among other publications. Since 2020 she has collaborated in the Centre for the Study of Migration and Intercultural Relations (CEMyRI) at the University of Almeria.
