Maria Elena Arias-Zelidon is currently preparing her dissertation on Indigenous/Spanish hybrid colonial representations in Guatemala. She recently won a scholarship from the NEH-AHRC Spanish Paleography and Digital Humanities Institute, in a project titled “Unlocking the Colonial Archive: Harnessing Artificial Intelligence for Indigenous and Spanish American Historical Collections.” This is a collaborative project led by LLILAS Benson Latin American Studies and Collections, a joint project of the Nettie Lee Benson Latin American Collection and the Teresa Lozano Long Institute of Latin American Studies at The University of Texas at Austin, in partnership with the Digital Humanities Hub at Lancaster University and Liverpool John Moores University. She is the first graduate student to work with Professor Arturo Arias on the Global Latinidades MRPI Project at the University of California, Merced.
