Tony Barbero

SB Coop Project Intern

Anthony Barbero is a horticulturalist, activist, and UCSB Sociology alumni originally from Ohlone Lands (San Francisco, California).  He is the founder of the Isla Vista Food Forest, a grassroots community project that aims to provide free produce for those in need while building a community based on both environmental education and shared principles of climate justice.  This project began in January 2021 and has grown to involve many members of the community including students, professors, local plant nurseries, scientific researchers, and more. He works with people around the world in an advisory capacity to green urban areas and to reduce the worst effects of climate change.  He is also a communications team member at Transition US, a nonprofit organization that aims to help communities move away from extractive economies towards cooperative ones.
