Carina Paredes-Rivera

Carina Paredes-Rivera graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2021 with a B.A in English and Spanish, and a minor in Translation. Her research interest included the feminist literature movement, and focused on the forgotten women writers of the Generation of 27 in Spain. Her translation project included poems from Concha Mendez, a forgotten poet and member of Las Sinsombreros in the Generation of 27. She continued her Master’s degree in Santa Barbara with the Latin American and Iberian Studies department. Her thesis focused on femicide in Latin America, following the #NiUnaMenos movement in Argentina and the performance by Las Tesis, "El violador eres tú" in Chile. Her thesis received the Outstanding LAIS MA Thesis Award. Carina is currently pursuing a Ph.D in Hispanic Literature. Her research interests lie in 20th and 21st Century Spanish Literature and Culture, Gender Studies, and Linguistic and Sociolinguistic Violence.
