Jasmine Mann is a junior Political Science major with minors in Spanish and Computer Science. Jasmine was born and raised in a diverse area of Alexandria, Virginia. She is a Black and second generation Mexican American woman excited to learn more about her own culture, Afro-Latino culture writ-large, and gain invaluable research experience. Through AfroLatinidades, Jasmine aspires to help marginalized communities and increase the awareness of Afro-Latinos among the Latino and Black community. Jasmine is also passionate about international relations and learning about different cultures and languages. Jasmine is an alumni of the U.S. Department of State Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Spark program, where she learned Russian culture and language throughout the academic year. She also studied abroad in Kyoto, Japan and Spelman in Havana, Cuba. The two-week Spelman in Havana experience focused on the Cuban education system, health system, and the experience of Cuban women. In addition, Jasmine plans to study abroad in the Fall at Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea, where she will learn more about the dynamic relationship between the United States and South Korea.
